The HydraFacial® is a skin care treatment that has been gaining in popularity in recent years, particularly in Belgium. It is a non-invasive alternative to skin resurfacing procedures such as laser or fruit acid peels. It is often used to improve the appearance of the skin in general, as well as to treat specific problems such as wrinkles, acne, age spots, dilated pores and uneven skin texture. But how exactly does HydraFacial® work, and is it safe and effective? In this article, we’ll explore the basics of HydraFacial®, its benefits and the results you can expect. The HydraFacial® treatment can be performed on facial skin, but also on the décolleté, back, hands or any area of the body with skin imperfections.

How does HydraFacial® work?

HydraFacial® is a skin-cleansing procedure that uses a special device to deeply vacuum and cleanse the skin’s pores, while simultaneously moisturizing them. It also uses skin care products such as antioxidants, fruit acids or peptides, to improve the skin’s appearance. There are generally four main steps in a HydraFacial® treatment:

  1. Cleansing and exfoliation: involves deep cleansing to remove impurities and dead cells from the skin’s surface. A gentle fruit acid exfoliant is used to remove dead skin cells, leaving the skin ready for the next steps.
  2. Extraction: This step involves extracting blackheads and impurities from the skin using a special nozzle. This reduces the appearance of pores and helps preventacne.
  3. Treatment care: A treatment solution is applied to the skin to moisturize and nourish. Ingredients may include vitamins, antioxidants and peptides to improve skin appearance. A customized serum can be added according to individual needs.
  4. Sun protection: Finally, a sunscreen is applied to protect the skin from harmful UV rays and to prolong the results obtained during the treatment.

An LED light session is also included at the end of the treatment, to soothe redness and calm the skin.

Is it safe and effective?

HydraFacial® is a risk-free treatment when performed by a qualified professional. There may be rare temporary side effects such as redness or rashes, but these are very rare and can be treated by using appropriate skin care products after the procedure. Most people see immediate results after the first session, but for optimal results, a treatment plan is recommended.

What results can you expect?

HydraFacial® leads to an overall improvement in the skin’s appearance, including a reduction in superficial wrinkles and age spots, a reduction in acne and enlarged pores, and an improvement in skin texture and color. It can also help increase collagen and elastin production, which generally helps slow the effects of skin aging.
