Injections
Injections of botulinum toxin (Botox®), hyaluronic acid or other dermal fillers (Radiesse®, Profhilo®, etc.) can be used to reshape certain parts of the face and reduce or fill in wrinkles and furrows. Frequently asked questions
What is aesthetic medicine?
Aesthetic medicine is a group of medical procedures designed to improve a person’s appearance through minimally invasive interventions. Aesthetic medicine can be used to correct imperfections or the effects of aging, particularly on the face and skin. Aesthetic medicine is also used for body-related procedures to reshape the silhouette, by eliminating fat or strengthening muscles.
What's the difference between cosmetic surgery and cosmetic medicine?
By definition, aesthetic medicine refers to non-surgical medical procedures: aesthetic medicine differs from cosmetic surgery in the techniques used. It involves non-invasive medical interventions, meaning that the skin is not incised. Aesthetic surgery, on the other hand, includes all procedures designed to improve appearance that require surgical intervention. It is based on medical techniques involving manual manipulation and the use of surgical instruments, enabling deeper and longer-lasting changes to be made to the body’s structure.
Why have aesthetic medicine?
On the one hand, aesthetic medicine aims to slow down the aging of the skin by providing toning, hydration and elasticity. Aesthetic medicine is thus a skin treatment solution for those who wish to rejuvenate their skin without undergoing more extensive cosmetic surgery.
In addition to providing anti-aging solutions, aesthetic medicine also aims to sublimate the skin or reshape the face through injections. On the other hand, aesthetic medicine is also the means to resolve certain complexes such as excessive perspiration, brown spots linked to hyperpigmentation, or scars. It’s also the solution to unwanted hair growth, thanks to laser hair removal.
Last but not least, aesthetic medicine is used to enhance the body and sculpt the figure. This is made possible by techniques and technologies that eliminate fat and strengthen muscles.
Is aesthetic medicine effective?
Aesthetic medicine is an effective and natural method. It is all the more effective when recommendations and instructions are followed. This means respecting the recommended number of sessions and contraindications.
At what age can cosmetic medicine treatments begin?
The answer to this question depends on many factors. The quality and pace of life, as well as skin care and, more simply, genetics, all play an important role in skin quality.
- Injections
Injections to prevent slight facial skin slackening can be performed from the age of 25-30. This is also the case for skinboosters. Thereafter, from the age of 30, solutions aimed at stimulating skin cells are recommended. The treatment of wrinkles comes a little later. It’s possible to start even before wrinkles appear as a preventive measure, but it’s from the age of 45-50 that injections are of greatest interest. Please note that these are indicative figures and that a consultation with a specialist is recommended before any aesthetic medical procedure. - Laser hair removal
It’s advisable to wait at least 18 years before starting laser hair removal, as this is the age at which women begin to reach the level of hormonal stability and maturity. This age can go up to 30, which is why some women prefer to wait at least 25 before starting permanent laser hair removal. It’s important to remember that every woman is different, and there’s no ideal age to start.
Are aesthetic medicine treatments suitable for all skin types?
Aesthetic medicine treatments are suitable for all skin types: oily, dry, combination and sensitive skins; but also thin and thick skins, which require different treatments. However, it’s important to choose the aesthetic medicine treatment that best suits your skin’s needs. That’s why it’s so important to make an appointment for a preliminary consultation, to find out which treatment is right for your skin type!
Who can practice aesthetic medicine?
Aesthetic medicine is not a branch of medicine in its own right. It is therefore not recognized by the Conseil de l’Ordre des Médecins, unlike aesthetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery. However, the specialists in charge of practicing aesthetic medicine at the various Claris Clinics in Belgium are qualified professionals. They all have years of experience. They include general practitioners specializing in aesthetic medicine, plastic surgeons and dermatologists.
