    Frequently asked questions

What are the objectives of injections in aesthetic medicine?

Injections are used to reshape or fill out certain parts of the face by injecting products for this purpose. These include hyaluronic acid, botulinum toxin and other fillers such as Lanluma® or Radiesse®. These treatments offer real alternatives to cosmetic surgery, but they are non-invasive and offer almost immediate recovery.

    Are injections painful?

Most injections cause little or no pain. They may, however, cause a slight sensation of discomfort during and after the session. To minimize this sensation, some injected products contain local anesthetics. In some cases, anaesthetic cream may also be applied to the treated area.

Are there any contraindications to injections?

As with most treatments, injections are not recommended for pregnant or breast-feeding women, or for people with autoimmune or chronic inflammatory diseases. Similarly, certain medications should be avoided, and anticoagulant treatments should be discussed with your doctor. You should also be on the lookout for possible allergies to ingredients. To find out about the specific contraindications of each treatment, please consult the dedicated information pages or ask your doctor.

What are the common side effects after injections?

After treatment, the treated area may experience pain, swelling, redness or slight bruising. These are temporary complications that disappear within a few days of the procedure. In rare cases, as with any medical procedure, infections or allergic reactions may occur. Before treatment, your doctor will ask you about your medical history, to help avoid any possible complications.

How long does an injection session last?

An injection session generally lasts between 15 and 30 minutes. For some treatments, this can extend to 60 minutes.

How do I prepare for an injection session?

Before any injection session, there are certain practices that should be followed or avoided to limit the risk of complications. The use of blood-thinning drugs such as aspirin is strongly discouraged. Aspirin can cause bleeding during the session. Alcohol consumption should also be avoided in the 72 hours preceding the injection session, as it increases the risk of bleeding, bruising and ecchymosis after treatment.

Eat a diet rich in antioxidants, which promote collagen production. As with most treatments, avoid exposure to the sun, either before or after the session. This makes the skin sensitive, which can have a negative impact on the final result. If you are unable to avoid sun exposure, remember to apply sun protection. Finally, on the day, although the doctor will clean the area to be treated, we recommend that you refrain from wearing make-up to avoid any risk of infection through transmission of bacteria.

How do I care for my skin after injections?

Generally speaking, the same precautions apply after the injections as before. In the days that follow, you should avoid exposure to the sun, extreme heat or temperatures below 0°c.Alcohol, blood-thinning drugs and make-up should also be avoided for the first 12 hours. You should also maintain a diet rich in antioxidants and drink plenty of water.

It is also advisable to avoid physical activity for 48 hours after the session. This increases body heat, which affects the results of the injection. When it comes to massaging the injected areas, the indications will vary depending on the treatment. Be sure to follow the specialist’s recommendations.

Are the injections visible immediately after treatment?

For the majority of treatments offered by Claris Clinic, the injections are visible immediately after treatment. However, results improve over the following days, and reach their optimum appearance after a few days. For botulinum toxin injections, including treatments forhyperhidrosis, results are not immediate. Results begin to be visible two to three days after treatment. However, it takes two to four weeks before the result is optimal.

What is the difference between filling injections and botulinum toxin injections?

A filling injection, as the name suggests, works by filling in areas of the dermis that have lost volume, mainly as a result of aging. The substance is then injected into the skin and the product is evenly distributed in the targeted areas. The most popular dermal filler is hyaluronic acid, which not only fills in signs of skin ageing, but also redefines the contours of certain parts of the face, such as the lips or nose.

Botulinum toxinoften marketed under the name Botox®, works in a very different way. The aim is not to fill in certain areas by injecting the product, but to immobilize the facial musclesresponsible for the appearance of certain wrinkles. Botulinum toxin, with its neurotoxic properties, is injected directly into the muscle to relax it. This stops the production of acetylcholine, which paralyses muscles and nerves. So-called “dynamic” wrinkles and fine lines, caused by facial expressions, are smoothed out.

Filling agents and botulinum toxin are therefore very different, and do not respond to problems in the same way. At your first consultation appointment, you can ask the doctor what is best for you.

What are the advantages of injections over other aesthetic treatments?

At Claris Clinic, we offer a multitude of solutions to best meet your needs. We focus on injections because this treatment offers a number of advantages:

    • Interventions are very rapid, generally lasting between 15 and 30 minutes, or even 60 in the most serious cases.
    • The procedures are virtually painless, with only a slight sensation of discomfort. The necessary precautions are taken for larger injections, since local anaesthetics are present in some of the products injected, and anaesthetic cream may be applied.
    • In most cases, the result is immediate or visible after a few days. This is not a surgical operation, which means there is no major intervention or scarring. As a result, you can resume your activities very quickly.
    • The result is what you ask for. Whether you want a very natural look or a more pronounced one, we’ll meet your requirements and expectations.
    • The effects are long-lasting, extending over several months. However, the result is not definitive! It’s ideal if you’re looking for a change with the possibility of evolution, for example.
    • Unlike cosmetic surgery, there are far fewer contraindications.
    • These procedures are not dangerous, although they can sometimes present mild side effects or an allergic reaction.
    • Injections can meet a multitude of different needs: whether it’s reducing fine lines and wrinkles, increasing lip volume, filling in specific areas of the face or improving skin quality, injections are bound to meet one of your needs.
