Lip injections, also known as “lip augmentation“, involve injecting a filler into the lips to reshape them and increase their volume.
Principle
Hyaluronic acid is a molecule naturally present in the dermis, joints and cartilage. The body produces it naturally to renew skin tissue and moisturize the skin.
The injectable hyaluronic acid used in aesthetic medicine and cosmetic surgery is identical to that produced by the body, and is obtained through biotechnological processes. Today, it is widely used and recognized for its skin tolerance and natural-looking properties. It is an absorbable product and its injection is different from botulinum toxin injection, but the treatments are complementary. Hyaluronic acid is very often used in combination with botulinum toxin to achieve the best possible results as part of a global approach.
What are the indications?
With age, sun and smoking, lips tend to lose volume, definition and firmness, which can lead to a thinner, more wrinkled appearance. Lip injections are a non-surgical technique for increasing volume, redefining contours and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles around the lips. Hyaluronic acid injections moisturize and nourish lips, and give them a more younger appearance, smoother and fuller.
These injections can also be performed on young lips to enhance their shape, appearance and hydration (a technique known as “Russian lips“).
Injection of hyaluronic acid therefore makes it possible to :
- Contour the lips;
- Redefining the Cupid’s bow;
- Increase lip volume for better symmetry;
- Moisturize lips;
- Reduce the appearance of fine lines above the upper lip.
Lip injections at Claris Clinic on RTBF
Session sequence
A hyaluronic acid injection session always begins with a consultation with a doctor specialized in aesthetics. At Claris Clinic, injections are always carried out by specialized, experienced doctors (dermatologists, plastic surgeons, aesthetic physicians, etc.). During this consultation, the doctor will examine the area to be treated and discuss your medical history and expectations.
During treatment, the doctor cleans the area to be treated and then uses a fine needle or cannula (a hollow tube with a foam tip) to inject the hyaluronic acid.
The session generally lasts between 15 and 30 minutes. A numbing cream is first applied to the lips to increase comfort during the injection. After the hyaluronic acid injection, you can immediately return to your daily activities. The doctor can also provide you with a cold “gel-pack” to cool the injected area and limit side effects (hematoma, redness, etc.).
Results are visible immediately and will improve over the following days. A slight swelling, hematoma or redness may appear on the lips, but this will quickly disappear.
Precautions to take
It is important to avoid taking aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs before treatment, to reduce the risk of bleeding. After treatment, it is important to avoid strenuous physical activity and exposure to the sun for a few days. Alcohol consumption before and after injections increases the risk of haematomas.

FAQ
How long does the result last and is it immediate?
The lip area is a highly stressed zone. We therefore use high-quality hyaluronic acid with high density (cross-linking) to ensure long-lasting results. Results from hyaluronic acid injections in the lips last around 8 to 10 months, depending on the individual and lifestyle.
Results are immediate, although some patients may experience slight swelling or bruising at the injection site, which may take a few days to resolve. Final results usually appear within a few days of treatment, once swelling and bruising have disappeared.
Is it painful?
The area’s strong innervation provides good contact analgesia. An anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand. What’s more, the filler contains lidocaine, a powerful anesthetic agent, to minimize discomfort. These injections are therefore well tolerated.
What are the contraindications?
Lip injections are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with active infections around the lips, and people with a history of allergies to any of the components used.
What are the possible complications?
- Edema, ecchymosis, redness, itching or pain at the injection site. These effects are transitory.
- Asymmetry: a further injection may be performed in the following days to correct any asymmetry.
- Granuloma (inflammatory nodule)
- Infection (very rare)
- Allergic reaction (very rare)
- Necrosis (very rare)
To minimize these risks, it is essential to consult a qualified and experienced physician. At the Claris Clinic, only specialized doctors perform injections. We work with hyaluronic acid brands offering the best quality guarantees.
How much does it cost?
Depending on the doctor, the consultation fee varies from €50 to €70.
Injections start at €245, depending on the area to be treated and the quantity to be injected. These prices are indicative and include VAT. The precise estimate will be drawn up by the doctor during the consultation.
